Day 1: Galle
Following an early morning departure from Colombo we begin making our way towards Galle on the south-western tip of the island. En route we stop off at an intriguing Mask Factory and Workshop in Ambalangoda, where you can see craftsmen plying their trade and browse a gallery of unique brightly-coloured masks which can be purchased as a souvenir or gift.

There is also the Galle National Museum, with a selection of ornamental objects made of ebony, tortoise shell, ancient wood and lace on display.

Later we board a canopied boat for a scenic cruise along the Madhu River, passing dozens of mangrove covered islets and stopping off at sites along the way – such as a 200-year old temple, and to watch locals farming cinnamon. Sri Lanka Day Tours: Colombo - Sri Lanka's capital.
Day 1: Colombo
Once a stop off for ancient seafarers trading in pearls, spices and precious stones, this modern-day sea port city is a fascinating blend of old and new with colonial buildings and lively oriental bazaars juxtaposed with commercial high-rise buildings and hotels. We start the City Tour with a drive through the commercial district, also known as the Fort as it was used to protect trading resources during the Dutch and Portuguese colonial times. Next we pass Pettah bazaar with a lively assortment of tenders and buyers and ancient automobiles and beautiful mosques and temples lining the streets. Following a visit to a Hindu Temple we continue past the stunning red-and-white Jami-Ul Alfar Mosque, one of Colombo’s most recognizable landmarks.

We then drive by the Wolvendall Dutch Church, thought to be one of the oldest places of Christian worship on the island, and the Hultsdorf Law Courts, the centre of legal activity in Colombo, before arriving in the ritzy Cinnamon Gardens suburb, an area that was once covered in cinnamon plantations. Later we continue on to the Independence Square, constructed to commemorate the independence of the country, and Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, before our final stop at the sprawling Gangaramaya Temple, one of the most important Buddhist temples in Colombo. Here you will find hundreds of Buddha statues, revered relics, examples of Asian architectural design, and much more.

Exploring Kandy
Meals: Breakfast
After breakfast at the hotel, embark on the tour of Kandy. Some say Kandy is the only other real ‘city’ in Sri Lanka, other than Colombo. The easy-going capital of the Hill Country has a lot to offer – history, culture, forested hills and a touch of urban buzz. The highlights of the tour include visits to Upper Lake Drive, Market Square and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic houses Sri Lanka's most important Buddhist relic - a tooth of the Buddha. The tooth is said to have been snatched from the flames of the Buddha's funeral pyre in 543 BC, and was smuggled into Sri Lanka during the 4th century AD, hidden in the hair of a princess. At first it was taken to Anuradhapura, but with the ups and downs of Sri Lankan history it moved from place to place before eventually ending up at Kandy. Other major attraction is the Royal Botanical Gardens, which was started in 1374 as a pleasure garden of the Kings of Gampola and Kandy. At the end of the day, return and spend the evening at leisure in the hotel.
Day
3
Kandy to Colombo
Meals: Breakfast
Post a filling breakfast at the hotel, check-out and proceed to Colombo. Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital, biggest city and major port, draws together all the colours and cultures that make up this island nation, condenses them into a patchwork of markets, gardens and buildings both humble and grand, and knocks them against a narrow slab of beachfront. You will appreciate Colombo’s colonial heritage, its fine dining and shopping opportunities, and the dash of urban buzz in an overwhelmingly rural country. Check-in to your hotel, relax and spend the rest of the day and the overnight stay at leisure.
Day
4
Exploring Colombo
Meals: Breakfast
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed for a morning city tour of Colombo. The tour will take you to the busy commercial areas as well as the tree-lined residential, Cinnamon Gardens. One of the first stops on the route is the Fort.  During the European era Fort was indeed a fort, surrounded by the sea on two sides and a moat on the landward sides. Today it’s a curious mix of brash modern structures, such as the World Trade Center, and venerable red-brick institutions from the Colonial-era, such as Cargills and Millers. You are also taken to visit Sea Street - the Goldsmiths quarters, where you will also find a Hindu temple with elaborate stone carvings. Nearby is the Wolvendaal Church, the most important Dutch building in Sri Lanka. When the church was built in 1749, this area was a wilderness beyond the city walls. The Europeans mistook the packs of roaming jackals for wolves, and the area became known as Wolf’s Dale, or Wolvendaal in Dutch. The historic Dewatagaha Mosque and the former Eye Hospital are two buildings in Cinnamon Gardens worth visiting. Also visit the BMICH (Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall), see the replica of Avukana Buddha and the Independence Square. Return and stay overnight at the hotel.

Exploring Nuwara Eliya

On the way, you will be treated to a multitude of tea plantations and waterfalls.  The summer resort of Nuwara Eliya (nu-rel-iya, meaning ‘City of Light’) keeps its colonial hill station atmosphere more completely than any place in the subcontinent. The town centre is a concrete tangle but the outskirts still keep the atmosphere of a misplaced British village, with hedges, rose gardens and red-roofed bungalows sporting twee names. The old post office, the racecourse, the English country house–styled Hill Club with its hunting pictures, mounted fish and hunting trophies and the 18-hole golf course all somehow seem more British than Britain itself. The Victoria Park, in the middle of the town, is a lovely place for a stroll or a picnic and is also good to see some of the rare birds. Upon arrival, you are taken for a tour of the city and its environs. After the tour, return and stay overnight at the hotel.
